Why You Should Add an Eye Test to Your Back To School Checklist
AN ASTOUNDING 1 IN 5 CHILDREN SUFFER FROM AN UNDETECTED VISION PROBLEM, HOWEVER, THE RESEARCH SHOWS A SHARP DECLINE IN OPTOMETRIC SERVICES TO CHILDREN OF ALL AGES UP TO 14.
WHY SHOULD YOU PUT AN EYE EXAMINATION ON YOUR BACK TO SCHOOL CHECKLIST?
As vision is responsible for 80% of all learning in a child's first 12 years, it is important to regularly check your child’s eyesight and vision skills. The beginning of each school year is an ideal time to have your child's eyes tested to ensure that their visual development is proceeding normally and to pick up any underlying conditions early.
Vision problems can interfere with your child’s ability to learn both in and out of the classroom, and can also impact their emotional and social development.
SOME KEY SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF VISION PROBLEMS INCLUDE:
One eye turns in or out while the other points straight ahead
Frequent blinking
Red or watery eyes
Sensitivity to light
Frequently rubbing eyes
Difficulty concentrating
Tilting head noticeably
Covering or closing one eye
Difficulty learning to read
Holding a book very close when reading
Leaving out confusing words when reading
Squinting or sitting very close when watching television
Difficulty recognising familiar people in the distance
Complaints of headaches, blurred or double vision
