WE ANSWER YOUR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS IN RELATION TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.
Should I still get my eyes tested?
If you healthy and not considered a part of a group vulnerable to COVID-19 (ie if you have a compromised immune system or a chronic medical condition), it is still safe to come in and get your eyes tested. Anyone with ongoing eye conditions of any sort or new visual symptoms is strongly advised to keep to their regular reviews, or book in should you have concerns. As a healthcare provider, we practice high level of infection control and have introduced additional safety measures during this time. You can read more about these protocols here.
If you have recently travelled overseas (or have been in contact with someone who has) or are feeling unwell, we ask that you do not visit the practice and postpone any appointments to a later date.
What if I am unwell and I have an eye emergency?
If you are unwell and have an eye emergency, please call our practice to speak to one of optometrists. If it is very urgent, please go directly to the Emergency Department to seek treatment.
Is it still safe to wear contact lenses?
It is safe to continue to wear contact lenses, however, it is vital to follow proper hand washing practices. Hands should be thoroughly washed with soap and dried with a clean towel or paper towel before inserting and before removing lenses. Do not let others handle your contact lenses, your contact lens case or solutions, and never share contacts!
Should I switch to daily disposables?
The safest way to wear contacts is to use single-use daily disposables. It would be strongly recommended to switch to these if possible should you be using monthly or fortnightly lenses. If you are interested in switching to daily disposable lenses, give us a call to discuss your options.
What if I am using fortnightly or monthly contact lenses?
If you are not wearing daily disposable lenses, you should continue regularly disinfecting your lenses according to your optometrist's directions. Standard practices should apply for ensuring solution and cases are safe; always change your solution each day, clean your contact lens case daily, and replace your case monthly.
Should I wear my contact lenses if I am feeling unwell?
As usual, it is best to stop wearing your contact lenses if you are feeling unwell, and instead wear a pair of prescription glasses.
How can I disinfect my glasses?
You can clean your glasses using lukewarm soapy water or a mild dishwashing liquid. Do not use cleansers that contain harsh chemicals or alcohol and avoid using heat as this can cause irreversable damage your lenses and frames.
